19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and recurring reactions on court had caused some to question if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent saved four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
