Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
